Talk to us about your practice

A free practice review, or a locum tax conversation. Tell us where you are and we will come back within one working day — from the person who would actually do the work.

What happens next

A free, genuinely useful conversation

We reply within one working day

From an accountant, not a call handler taking details to pass on to somebody else.

Thirty minutes on your position

Your structure, your last accounts, your pricing and your year end. By video or phone, arranged around consulting hours rather than ours.

A straight recommendation

Including "stay as you are", "fix these three things before your year end" or "your current accountant is doing this well", where that is the honest answer.

What a free practice review covers

  • Your EBIT margin, and where it sits against the CMA's own sample of 36 independent practices — which ranged from minus 9% to plus 34%, with a weighted average of 11% across 2021 to 2023
  • Your current written-prescription charge against the capped fee, and what the difference is worth across a year on your own prescription volumes
  • Whether every premises that stores or supplies medicines is separately registered on the Register of Veterinary Practice Premises, at £38 a year each, renewing 1 April
  • The corporation tax position, including how many associated companies are dividing your £50,000 and £250,000 marginal relief limits
  • Payroll: employer National Insurance at 15% above the £5,000 secondary threshold, the £10,500 Employment Allowance, and the April 2026 National Living Wage of £12.71
  • For a locum: which IR35 regime each of your engagers puts you in, and whether your gross turnover takes you into Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

What to have to hand

Nothing at all, if you would rather just talk. If you want the review to be concrete, the four most useful things are your last set of accounts, your most recent management figures, your current price list or fee schedule, and a note of how many premises you hold. For a locum, last year's tax return and a rough note of days worked and who for.

If you are switching from another accountant

It is one letter of engagement from you. We then write to your current accountant for professional clearance and for the records, and pick the work up from there. Two points on timing. A switch early in an accounting period is worth more than one made a fortnight before the year end, simply because there is time to change the figures rather than only report them. And if you are mid-way through building a published price list, that is a reason to move sooner rather than later — the pricing work and the accounts work are the same exercise, and doing them separately costs you twice.

Where we are

Remote-first, across the United Kingdom. We do not publish an office address because we do not run a walk-in office, and a practice in Inverness gets exactly the service a practice ten minutes away gets. One point of substance rather than geography: the draft CMA Order extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so the remedies reach every practice. Veterinary medicines do not work the same way everywhere — Northern Ireland follows EU Regulation 2019/6 rather than the GB Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013, which is why an antimicrobial prescription there is valid for five days rather than up to six months. The £38 premises registration fee is the England and Wales figure.

Prefer to talk now? WhatsApp us, or email hello@buzzaccounting.co.uk. If you would rather read first, the eight free calculators and the veterinary tax and compliance calendar ask for nothing at all.

We will only use your details to reply to your enquiry. See our privacy notice.

Two things we will not do

We will not give you clinical or RCVS regulatory advice — that is not our field and pretending otherwise would be worse than useless. And we will not tell you what your practice is worth as a multiple of anything, because no primary source publishes veterinary practice multiples and the CMA's final report deliberately does not. Why we say so up front.

If it is about the CMA

Bring your current prescription charge, your parasiticide prices and a rough count of consultations. That is enough to put real numbers on the remedies. The Order itself has not been made — the CMA's deadline for making it is 23 September 2026, and the obligations follow three to twelve months after that.
